What are the main uses of Acetophenone?

Acetophenone manufacturers introduce that acetophenone, commonly known as benzoin and also known as acetophenone, is a simple aromatic ketone with a special aroma resembling hawthorn.
The main uses are:
1) As a solvent, it has characteristics such as high boiling point, stability, and pleasant odor, with very strong dissolving ability, similar to cyclohexanone;
2) As a spice, it is a blending ingredient for essences such as hawthorn, mimosa, and lilac, and is commonly used in soap essences and tobacco essences;
3) Used for synthesizing phenylglycolic acid, α-phenylindole, isobutylphenylpropionic acid, etc., and also used as a plasticizer for plastics;
4) It can be used in medicine and has hypnotic properties.
The main synthesis methods of acetophenone include ethylbenzene oxidation, acylation of benzene with acetic anhydride, and acylation of benzene with acetyl chloride. In industry, the ethylbenzene air oxidation method is commonly used to prepare acetophenone.
The current consumption technology for acetophenone employs batch operation, resulting in low equipment efficiency, poor heat and mass transfer, significant environmental pollution from solvents, and numerous by-products.

Using ethylbenzene and hydrogen peroxide as raw materials, cobalt acetate as catalyst, and a microchannel reactor with excellent mass and heat transfer performance, acetophenone was synthesized through continuous oxidation reaction. The effects of the molar ratio of ethylbenzene to catalyst, residence time, reaction temperature, etc. on the reaction were investigated, and the process conditions for the oxidation reaction were optimized, achieving good reaction results.
This method can achieve continuous consumption in practical application.
When acetophenone is used as a solvent, it exhibits characteristics such as high boiling point, stability, and pleasant odor. Its solubility is similar to that of cyclohexanone, and it can dissolve nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, vinyl resin, coumarone resin, alkyd resin, and glycerol alkyd resin.
It is often mixed with ethanol, ketones, esters, and other solvents for use. When used as a fragrance, it is a blending ingredient for essences such as hawthorn, mimosa, and lilac, and is commonly used in soap essences and tobacco essences. It is used to synthesize phenylglycolic acid, α-phenylindole, isobutylphenylpropionic acid, etc., and also serves as a plasticizer for plastics.
